"Bright Sparks on the road!"

Many members of the Learning Disabled community travel to Bright Sparks sessions in the rehearsal rooms and theatres in the Leeds area, to create original plays together, learn new skills, make new friends and have fun. For people who might not want to, or be able to, come to our Big Drama Club sessions, make a play; and perform as actors, our outreach programme sees the Bright Sparks team bring their theatre game workshops into centres in and around Leeds and have the opportunity to work (and play) together on these adult's "own turf", such as their local day-services or community centre.

The photographs that you see here are from recent visits to The Bridge in Holbeck, Leeds, and (inspired by the research and development; and devising process for making our Big Drama Club play, "Emporium Curioso") we looked at important objects belonging to the group, to find out the stories and emotions associated with the items. Some stories were sad, but it was really good to share these stories and have other people listen; and sometimes share similar experiences, so we all know that we are not alone. Some stories are funny or happy memories, so it's never too serious, and we have a good laugh at some of things that have happened in our lives. And of course, no sharing of memories and passions would be complete without a bit of talk about our beloved Leeds United Football Club!

Bright Sparks have a range of outreach projects happening now; and more planned for the future, to best reach out to the Learning Disabled community of Leeds to have fun, be creative and share the journey together.

If you have any enquiries about our outreach work, or anything else for that matter, please don't hesitate to contact us at info@brightsparkstheatre.com
